Silken Road Across a Sunken Sea: On the evaporating steppe, “Whales of the Sea of Deceit” give way to the “Dromedaries of the Sands.” (Finnegans Wake, p 241.28) It is a 50-million-year return to lower-asia theories of common ears and ankles. Ships-of-the-desert remain to eventually carry away their kindred’s remainders; the seaborn bones of stranded ships-off-the-sea. When desert ships dry up, their remains will also scatter in the sand. Who will burden themselves bearing their bones, as the tidal sea bore her ships before she too became barren?
